What Encouraging LOOKS like:
  • provide acknowledgement responses that help the speaker continue to explain his position
  • "Yes, I'm following you."
  • "Continue on."
  • "Ah, I see what you are saying; tell me more."

4. Show willingness to listen further as the teacher begins to identify the real problems. This is to keep the teacher thinking.

Oddly enough, encouraging does not mean praise. Praise indicates judgment, and the teacher will be influenced and might not make his own decision.
